I have two brothers--one 21 months older, and one three years younger.  Yes, I am the middle child and the only girl.  Being the only girl was fun, but I always though it would be fun to be either the oldest—you get to do everything first—or the adorable baby of the family!  However, everyone knows the middle child is the smartest... so I'll take it. Can you imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to photograph the Ferriolo family?  Two brothers and one sister! In this family, twins Luca and Michael are eight years old and sister Julia is age six.  So Julia isn’t the middle child like I am, but she still has two brothers to deal with. I can relate.  (The puppy's name is Mac.) This was one of those days when everything comes together perfectly.  The setting, the family, the weather, the dog (well, he ran off once with his leash in his mouth, but he was just playing)—it was all near perfection.  This photo shoot took place on a beautiful Spring day in May, and we did the shoot at a nature park in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunset that day too. But the absolutely best part of this shoot was the Ferriolo family itself.  These funny and goofy kids—Luca, Michael, and Julia—reminded me of a lot of the crazy times I used to have with my two brothers.  Nobody plays together quite like siblings do. You relate to each other by fighting and playing, playing and fighting. But there is no deeper love, except for the love you feel for your Mom and your Dad. Because these guys are really into Minecraft and Roblox (like my own little guy, Jonah), I pretended to be cool and know all about it myself.  I think they saw right through me, but in spite of that (or maybe because of it), I got some great smiles out of these sillies! , ****************** Missy Timko is the photographer behind Powder Blue Photography, a boutique photography studio located in Pittsburgh, PA. Baby Palmer was a complete doll for our newborn session at his Peters Township home this spring.  We shot some of this session in the light, bright master bedroom and some of the images in the library for a moodier backdrop.  The first thing I do for any session is look around the home for unexpected locations--you just never know what part of a home is going to make a great location for newborn photography! This little handsome fellow already has some very cute outfits to wear for his session.  It's important that newborn clothes fit well but Palmer was a larger baby, so this was not an issue! One of the many advantages to shooting a lifestyle newborn session in your home is that we can photograph your nursery--some mamas spend a lot of time and energy designing every detail, and believe me when I tell you that baby's room is going to change a LOT in the months and years to come.  Baby Palmer's nursery is a neutral nautical theme with iron and wood accents.  Love that iron crib! ********** Missy Timko is the photographer behind Powder Blue Photography, a boutique photography studio located in Pittsburgh, PA. Baby Blair 3 Months | Pittsburgh Baby Photographer

I could gush over baby Blair all day.  From the sweetest face ever to her charming personality to spending time with her awesome mama, this shoot was a highlight of my month for sure! Despite the dreary weather, I mostly used natural light for this shoot. We shot this session in the upper level of the house and opened up all the blinds completely.  With enough windows, this can work even on a very overcast/rainy day.  I did use some fill flash on the nursery photos, but that's kind of a must for images that are meant to feature the space (versus a portrait).  I have been using Canon 600 ex-rt's for a couple years now and I just LOVE them SO much.  Before that I used 580 ex II"s and, though that is a great flash as well, the (very expensive!!!) Flex TT1/Mini TT5 Pocket Wizards I was using for OCF were unreliable at best.  I appreciate that with the 600 ex-rt's, I can just turn them on and go when using for a light fill.  Time is money people.  I first saw the 600's demonstrated by Hanson Fong at Imaging in Nashville and knew I had to have them!  I also just got a MagMod bubble thingy and found it very simple to use but kind of heavy. This face!! Baby Blair, you are gorgeous!! Baby B, you are sweet and adorable and I can't wait to see you (and your mama) again in a couple months!!
