This “lil’ cajun hushpuppy” is the son of some friends of mine from college (Chico State, late 90s).  Did you know I grew up in Southern California (San Diego), went to college in Northern California (Chico), and then I worked as a high school teacher in both Sacramento, CA and Portland, OR before moving to Pittsburgh in 2012?  SO much has changed, and I was so happy to reconnect with old friends who are new parents!

Some mutual friends of ours got married in Portland last month, so this little sweetie’s mama asked me to photograph her little guy while I was there, and I am so crazy about how they turned out!  Now only is he just SO cute, but I liked the blanket in the background and how different the landscape looks than here… though our grass is pretty dead now that it has hardly rained since June in Pittsburgh!

I got really emotional when I was working on these images!  There is just something really simultaneously special and just so nuts about starting a new life as a mom and dad.  I am so excited for these guys and so excited to watch baby Fisher grow into a little man.

I live in Pittsburgh, the Castillos live in Sacramento, this session took place in Portland.  What??  I know, confusing.

It was a thrill to meet Rose, who was still a baby in my mind but is actually three! She reminded me SO much of Mimi (minus the diva attitude… I’m talking to you Mimi!) and I was wishing they would run around together in butterfly wings.  Not on this trip, but soon I hope!

Mama Stephanie is a highly educated and experienced pre-k special ed teacher (that is how we met, back in the early 00s in Cali!), so during this session she taught me many things about producing smiles and making a session fun.  There was a lot of talk of fairy dust and I felt like we were on an adventure the entire time.

Here is a sweet family photography session that I shot in basically full sun, mid-morning at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.  I thought they turned out beautifully, and I will maybe not shy away from mid-morning sun as much as I used to!  SO sunny & lovely!

This is a beautiful age for a portrait, sitting up (almost!!) and so happy!  Baby Ben was such a doll!

Rat Terrier Gracie is getting along in her years, but was very agreeable for her close-up!  She wore her sassy summer outfit for portraits!
